Laurentiu, since you seem to know quite some bit about the current files 
in the repository. Could you possibly write a document and explain which 
directory is for what. To me there seems quite a bit of redundancy in 
the tree.

For example there is some such stuff in the contrib directory (I don't 
yet know whether it is used in the current compiler). Do you happen to 
know a bit about the history of its contents?
